Preparing Your Retail Store for Fires
Is your store prepared for a fire? Your retail store should have fire alarms that are in working condition. These alarms will alert anyone in the vicinity that there’s a problem and they should exit the building. Many stores use a fire alarm monitoring system which alerts the local fire department– that way they’ll know to come check on the place should the alarm go off. Additionally, it’s a good idea to have sprinklers in your store; They can combat larger fires with water or other means to quell a fire. You should also have a certain number of fire extinguishers in your building that are easily accessible and ready to use at a moment’s notice. Train people on how to use them.
Finally, make sure your retail store has emergency exit signs so people know where to exit the premises should an alarm sound. Emergency lights should also come on, in case it’s dark inside for whatever reason.
